Abbreviations are first three letters of province's name, or if province has name of two words - first letter from the first word, and first two letters from the second word, e.g. NSa for Novi Sad. Letters that do not exist in English alphabet, so-called Yugoslav letters (ščćžđ), are ignored when making abbreviations, e.g. Šibenik is Sib, not Šib. Exceptions from the rule are: Vao for Valjevo (because in Serbian 'lj' is one letter!), Krg for Kragujevac (Kra is Kranj), Kvo for Kraljevo (again, Kra is Kranj), Prz for Prizren (Pri is Priština), Pdr for Prijedor (same reason), Koc for Konjic (like with lj, 'nj' is one letter in Serbian).

Each country starts with one army in it's capital (underlined province). Each power can build in any empty SC if it has more centers than units at the end of Fall retreats.
